At Camp Menogyn on the Gunflint Trail
Pontoon access only: Access to the camp is by the camp’s pontoon service only.

Day 1: Thursday afternoon, 3 October 2013

11:30 am – 12:30 pm | Lunch at Trail Center Restaurant – all are welcome to join the Steering Committee for informal pre-meeting conversations.
12:30 pm – 1:00 pm | Pontoon Shuttle from Menogyn Landing Welcome Center to Menogyn

1:30 pm General Meeting —Dining Hall, Camp Menogyn
1:30 pm – 1:55 pm | Welcome and Introductions (Frank Jewell, Chair, HOCP Steering Committee and St. Louis County Commissioner)
2:00pm – 3:20 pm | Community Visioning on the Gunflint Trail – Presentation and dialogue about the current effort underway to lead a community visioning process that fits with Gunflint Trail values.
3:30 pm – 4:15 pm | Break
4:15 pm – 4:30 pm | Volunteer Initiative Update (Chris Stromberg, Quetico Provincial Park and Ann Schwaller, Superior National Forest) – Summary of the 2013 pilot efforts, and invitation to participate in the 2014 season.
4:35 pm – 5:00 pm | Geotourism Initiative Update (Mary Somnis, Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board and Doug Franchot, Voyageurs National Park Association) – Update from the Design Team, which has begun actively planning this partnership with National Geographic.
5:00 pm | Adjourn

5:15 pm – 5:45 pm | Menogyn Walking Tour (Director Doug Nethercutt)
5:45 pm – 6:15 pm | Volunteer Activity – Earn your supper with a 30 minute physical activity to help the camp.
6:15 pm – 7:15 pm | Supper in Dining Hall

Day 1: Thursday evening, 3 October 2013. Camp Menogyn Dining Hall

7:30 pm – 8:30 pm | Presentation: How the Chik Wauk Museum Came to Be – Chik Wauk museum staff will tell the story of the collaboration that led to this new treasure at the end of the Gunflint Trail, followed by refreshments.

Day 2: Friday Morning, 4 October 2013. Camp Menogyn Dining Hall
7:45 am – 8:00 am | First word, thought for the day (Paul Danicic, Friends of the Boundary Waters Wilderness)
8:00 am – 8:45 am | Breakfast in the Dining Hall
9:00 am – 9:45 am | HOCP Reset: Where are we and where are we going? A chance for folks to reflect on HOCP’s goals and current activities (meetings, Geotourism Initiative, Volunteer Initiative.)
10:00 am | Pontoon Leaves for Field Trip to Chik Wauk Museum (30 minute drive from parking lot)
11:00 am – noon | Chik Wauk Museum Tour
12:30 pm Lunch at Gunflint Lodge. Closing lunch will be held at this historic resort as we head back down the Gunflint Trail.

Lodging:
On-Site: Bunkhouse style accommodations at Menogyn: $40 per person. Bring a sleeping bag and pillow.
Off-Site: Hotel or cabin style accommodations may be available at nearby lodges, Hungry Jack Lodge, Trail Center Lodge, Windigo Lodge and others. Please contact these places as you have interest. (Note: Any of these options would require boat shuttle to get to and from Menogyn. Please call Paul Danicic at 612 332-9630 to inquire ahead about shuttle logistics.)

Costs (please indicate which you plan to attend, to help us plan):
The only meeting costs are meals and lodging. Please indicate which of the following apply, and pay when you arrive, by cash or check to “Camp Menogyn.” Thanks.
